Dinner in Royal Oak demands a strategy, mostly because the parking can eat your evening before the appetizer arrives. Skip the lot anxiety and aim for the plate.

This lineup runs from a massive shawarma that requires a plan of attack at Boukie’s Grill to an espresso martini at Trattoria Da Luigi that genuinely rewired my standards. I’ve already cleared my schedule for a return to beppé’s pork belly, which was crisp in a way that felt personal.

Here’s where your next reservation should go.

beppé surprised me in the best way. The lamb merguez had a rich, spiced depth that lingered. The fries came with a dipping sauce I still think about. Pork belly was cooked perfectly, crisp outside, tender inside. The whipped pistachio beet salad added a bright, earthy contrast. Cocktails were well-made, and the tiramisu disappeared before I could offer a second bite. It is a place that cares about balance. Each plate felt deliberate. D'Amato's Restaurant handles gatherings with grace. The big round tables make conversation easy. Our server, Marvin, was outstanding, attentive without being intrusive. The menu mixes Italian classics with creative touches, and everything we tried worked. For birthdays, they bring fresh cinnamon donuts. That alone earns points. Live music played during dinner, adding warmth without overwhelming. I felt like part of the room, not just a customer. It is a reliable choice for groups or a special night out. Pot pie soup disappoints slightly

Jim Brady's Royal Oak offers solid comfort in a friendly setting. The French dip with horseradish is excellent, the beef tender and the roll sturdy. Service was friendly, and the indoor-outdoor patio seating is a nice touch. I did try the pot pie soup, and it fell slightly short. It lacked the richness I wanted. But the main dish carried the meal. The space feels open, easy. For a relaxed dinner with good people, this works. I would order the dip again in a heartbeat.

Pricey, cold tacos disappoint

Blind Owl Royal Oak has a good atmosphere and even cooking classes. I started with the street corn, a nice opener. The trio dip appetizer really shines. Our server, Lilly, was attentive and knowledgeable. But the tacos let me down. They arrived cold and felt overpriced. That is a hard combo to forgive. Still, the dips and the vibe keep me curious. I might return for a class and stick to appetizers. This place has potential, just not in the tacos.

Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina has strong service and a comfortable setting. The pizza is solid, though unremarkable. I wanted more from the crust. The meatballs are worth ordering, juicy and well-seasoned. The pasta, however, disappointed with a texture that felt off. Portions run small for the price. I left feeling a little shortchanged. It is not a bad meal, just an average one at premium cost. If you go, stick to the meatballs and keep expectations in check.

Trattoria Da Luigi wins on drinks and starters. The espresso martini is the best I have had, smooth and strong. The lemon calamari stands out, tender with a bright citrus note. Our waitress was kind and knew the menu well. They finish you with homemade lemon cello, a sweet touch. I could have skipped the main and been happy, but the meal held up.
